ELCA LAY SCHOOL FOR MISSION
Monday night, September 10 is the start of a new semester of classes for the new Lay School for Mission in our Menominee Valley Conference. A rich diversity of classes will be offered this fall, all taught by pastors of our conference.
The schedule of courses includes:
• Gospels: An in-depth look at each of the four gospels
• Evangelism: The why and how of sharing the faith with others
• Religion & Politics: Is Christian civility possible in an election year?
• World Religions: A look at the world’s great wisdom traditions
• Worship & Liturgies: Take a journey into the “heartbeat” of Christian faith and life
Brochures that include course descriptions, a schedule for classes and a registration form are available in the narthex. Talk to Pastor, Karen Sylvester, or Heidi Beland about the marvelous opportunity for Christian education that your Lay School provides.
Classes are held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee on Monday evenings, 5:15 pm to 9:15 pm. Everyone is welcome and there are no fees except for the text books. We have limited financial assistance available where needed.
Collecting School Supplies
We will again be collecting school supplies for area children. We do not need backpacks this year. We have had a request for the following items for the four-year-old program: sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, balls of all sizes, bubbles etc. – things they can use outside! These things can often be found at the dollar stores.
Cottage Gatherings
We are excited to announce that during the weeks of September 10th through September 22nd and October 15th through October 27th there will be approximately twelve cottage gatherings hosted by several of Zion’s members. Some of the gatherings will be held during the day and some in the evening, depending on the host’s time schedule.
Members of Zion will be able to sign up for the gathering they want to attend beginning Sunday, August 5th. We anticipate about 15 people per gathering, and sign-up will be on a first come, first served basis. Each “Cottage Gathering” will have a facilitator who will lead a discussion centered on ministry in our daily life. A dessert and beverage will be served.
Plan to attend and have a great time!
Hymn Sing!
At our regular worship service on Sunday, July 22nd, YOU will get to pick the hymns we sing. There will be numerous opportunities throughout the service for worshipers to choose their favorite hymns to sing during the service. Sometimes we call it, “Stump the Band,” but our organist says she’s pretty confident that she’ll be able to play whatever is chosen. So, which hymn do you want to sing on the 22nd? Come and let us know!
